Sandeshkhali's Shahjahan moves High Court seeking bail in ration corruption case, hearing next week
On February 29 last year, the state police arrested Sandeshkhali Trinamool leader Shahjahan. Later, the CBI took him into custody in the ration corruption case. Now, he has applied to the High Court seeking bail in that case.
Sandeshkhali Trinamool leader Sheikh Shahjahan has approached the Calcutta High Court seeking bail in a CBI case. The High Court has allowed him to file a bail case. The hearing is scheduled for next week in the division bench of Justice Arijit Banerjee and Justice Apurba Singh Roy. Earlier, Shahjahan had applied for bail in the lower court. He has appealed to the High Court after it was not granted there.
On January 5 last year, ED officers were attacked while conducting a search operation in Sandeshkhali in the ration corruption case. Allegedly, the officers of the central investigation agency were attacked by Shahjahan's forces. Their cars were also allegedly vandalized. After that incident, the CBI and police could not reach Shahjahan. The police arrested him after 55 days. On February 29 last year, the state police arrested the Trinamool leader from Sandeshkhali. Later, on the orders of the court, the CBI took him into custody in the ration corruption case. Now, Shahjahan has applied to the High Court to get bail in the case.
There are multiple cases against the leader. Earlier, the state police had filed a suo motu case against him in the incident of assaulting ED officers. Last year, the Basirhat court had granted his bail application in that case. He is in jail in a ration corruption case. This time, he has approached the court to get released from there.
